Seattle Central College seeks applicants for a full-time tenure track faculty position in the Respiratory Care program. This position includes being the program director or clinical director responsible for accreditation, district, college, division and program needs. The candidate must possess a Master's degree and must be eligible for licensure in the State of Washington for this position that begins in the fall quarter of 2017. Responsibilities include didactic and clinical teaching, scholarly activity, and service. The Respiratory Care Program is a fully accredited with The Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC) and offers a Bachelor's of Applied Science in Allied Health Sciences. Course content is based on the integration of liberal and technical education, and draws upon basic natural and biological science theories, behavioral science theories, the use of technology in the classroom, and current societal changes to provide a balanced, student-centered curriculum. Graduates are prepared to work as entry-level Respiratory Care Practitioners in a variety of health settings. The program is oriented to the future, with a strong emphasis on highly interactive and collaborative learning, critical thinking, diversity in health care, life-long learning, and team teaching. This position is dedicated to teaching in the didactic, lab, and clinical portions of the program. The successful applicant will have the ability to identify, design, implement, and assess learning experiences for individual students as well as groups of students. Student advising, committee work, curriculum development and related tasks are also part of the load for this position.

Required Education, Experience & Abilities: 


  • Master's degree (or higher) in a related field. 
  • At least four years current clinical experience. 
  • Valid Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential. 
  • Current Washington State Respiratory Care Practitioner License. 
  • Ability to meet and fulfill Washington State and SCD Professional Technical Education Instructor Certification requirements. 
  • Minimum of two years teaching in an accredited respiratory care program either as an appointed faculty member or as a clinical preceptor. 
  • At least two years teaching experience working with non-traditional diverse adult learners. 
  • Experience in curriculum development and outcomes oriented student assessment models. 
  • Computer literate with experience in electronic communications, word processing, and electronic medical records software. 
  • Knowledge of interactive learning software in the Respiratory Care and allied-health occupations as program involves significant computer oriented teaching/learning content. 
  • Demonstrated ability to contribute positively in a team environment to program goals that improve student learning.
